Being eaten by wolves in the French Alps.
Fortunately we weren’t eaten by wolves. It happens to the sheep that spend the summer on the flower filled mountainsides as part of the transhumance that has gone on for centuries. On the Sunday evening of our first Nordic Walking Trek we were welcomed with “supper will be early tonight as we have a documentary”. It was this that taught us about the difficulty of shepherding now that the European Wolf (Canis lupus lupus) is increasing in numbers. Someday someone probably will get brought down by a pack – God forbid.
